YORKTOWN 5, GREELEY 4
The season opener was a well-played game against the
Huskers of Yorktown, who won 5-4.
The cold weather was a factor as Greeley starter Drew
Felsthenthal had some control issues. A few Huskers were
awarded first base the hard, really-stinging-cold-hard
way.
Felsthenthal pitched four strong innings, struck out
three and only gave up three hits.
Defensively, the Quakers looked tight with excellent
play in the outfield by Sam Gladstone in center and in
the infield by Brian Donovan at third. Zach Csilig was
strong in relief with three strike outs and only 2 base
hits. Steven Haynes led the offense with a deep RBI
double to left center and patience at the plate put four
Quakers on first, two of whom scored.
The fifth inning was the best: Toback led off with a
hit, Gonzales got on when the right fielder bungled a
HIGH fly, Brian Donovan walked, Andy Diorio hit safely
in the hole, Gladstone hit a deep sac fly and Greeley
was back in the game with 3 runs scored.
Greeley tied it 4-4 in the 7th when Michael Levine,
who walked, scored on a Gladstone hit, but Yorktown
answered back in their last at bat to win 5-4.
