GREELEY 5, HEN HUD 3
Led by four goals from Greeley's freshman unit, the
Quakers defeated the Hendrick Hudson Sailors 5-3 at
Brewster on Monday night in the first round of the
Section 1 hockey playoffs.
Greeley scored the first two goals and kept the lead
throughout the game. Each time Greeley went up by two,
Hen Hud would score and keep the pressure on Greeley.
Hen Hud was within one for the last 8 minutes of the 3rd
period before Greg Krisberg scored on a empty netter for
his 2nd goal of the game. Sam Mishkind, Scott Jakubowicz
and Captain Sam Spar rounded out the goal scoring.
Greeley's preseason goal of going deep in the
playoffs will be put to the test as they face the
Section 1 favorite and NY State 5th ranked Pelham
Pelicans at the Ice Hutch on Wednesday Feb 22 at 6:00
pm.

SECTIONAL GAME VS
HEN HUD Greeley faces off against Hendrick
Hudson in the opening round of the NY State Section 1,
Division 2 Varsity Ice Hockey playoffs at Brewster Ice
Arena on Monday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Earlier in the year, the two teams skated to a 2-2
overtime tie as Hen Hud scored late in the game, in
which Greeley held a 47-17 edge in shots on goal.
Monday's game should be an exciting rematch with the
winner scheduled to face Pelham, the fourth ranked team
in NY State, at the Ice Hutch on Wednesday, February 22
at 6 pm.

Hockey Week January 20: Two Wins
At Brewster Ice Arena Greeley skated to a 3-1 victory over Fox Lane.
Greeley dominated play throughout, holding Fox Lane to
just 14 shots on goal while they were able to put 35
shots on the Fox Lane goaltender. Blake Davis led the
team with two goals and the defense continued its
outstanding play.

Greeley continued its ability to control play against
weaker teams with a 7-2 victory over Byram Hills on
Friday night.
Greg Krisberg notched a hat trick and Noah
Ives and Jake Sandor also tallied for Greeley. Owen
Gatto created many opportunities for his teammates,
gathering 3 assists.
Greeley takes off a week and is back on the ice on
Friday, Feb 3 in a rematch at Sport O Rama in Monsey, NY
against Pearl River, who defeated Greeley earlier in the
season 3-2, and then Shepaug at Brewster at 6:10 pm on
Saturday, Feb 4.
With only four more games to go before playoffs, the
Greeley team will need to win its games against Pearl
River and Ryetown/Harrison if they are to have a
high seed when the playoffs begin. The defense led by
Owen Gatto, Greg Krisberg, Henry Girardi and Dean Klien
as well as a group of strong backchecking forwards have
kept opposing players and pucks away from goaltender
Neil Hershman. The team will need to score
more goals if they are to advance deep in the playoffs
next month.

Greeley Hockey Ends Mixed Week with OT Loss to Mt.
Pleasant
Greeley lost three of five games last week beginning
with a hard fought battle against Pearl River at
Brewster Ice Arena.
After Greeley gave up the first goal of the game,
Nick Girardi and Sam Mishkind found the back of the net
a few minutes apart and Greeley led 2-1 going into the
third period. A scramble in front of goaltender Neil
Hershman led to a Pearl River goal halfway through the
final period and with less than two minutes to go Pearl
River scored again for a 3-2 victory. This was Greeley's
third loss of the year, each by one goal.
Next up was undefeated Rye, the fifth ranked team in
NY State Division 2.
Rye quickly outskated Greeley to start the game but
the Quakers battled and a goal by Sam Spar put Greeley
up 1-0 after the first period.
Greeley knew Rye would come out flying in the second
period and they did, scoring two quick goals and
finishing with three more in the period on way to a 7-1
victory.
Greeley hockey has improved greatly this year but the
depth and talent of the Rye team was simply too much.
Greeley followed the Rye loss with a convincing 4-3
victory over Newburgh Free Academy, controlling the play
of the game throughout.
In a game that the Quakers expected to win, the busy
week ended with Greeley losing with 10 seconds to go in
overtime to Mt Pleasant 3-2.
Despite pressure on the Mt Pleasant goaltender, only
Blake Davis and Owen Gatto were able to score in another
disappointing one-goal loss.
This week Greeley skates at Brewster against Fox Lane
on Thursday at 7:55 pm and on Friday Jan 20 vs. Byram
Hills.

Nick Girardi and Scott Jakubowicz also scored as Greeley
outshot Nyack 35-23. Photos of the game can be seen at

This Friday Jan 6 at 7:10 pm at Brewster Ice Arena

GREELEY HOCKEY OFF TO SOLID FIRST HALF OF SEASON
The varsity hockey team enters the holiday break with a
6-2-1 record. After a strong start at the Thanksgiving
tournament, Greeley kept up the exciting play with a 6-1
victory against Nyack/Tappan Zee. The only real
disappointment of the season was a 2-2 tie versus
Hendrick Hudson as Greeley outshot them 47-17. Greeley
rebounded, outscoring Newburgh 3-0 and out shooting them
60-10. Greeley's next opponent was the
Bethel-Brookfield-Danbury team. Greeley fought hard but
could not hold a 2-0 lead and wound up losing 4-3.
Greeley's deep team and aggressive skating style
overwhelmed Ossining resulting in a 5-1 victory. Photos
from the Ossining game are
here. Greeley
finished the first half of the year, controlling play
and skating away with a 3-0 win over Byram Hills.
Overall, Greeley stands undefeated and tied for 1st
place in their conference. Greeley has outscored its
opponents 35-16 and out shot its opponents 324-171.
The second half of the season will be the real test
as the team faces a much tougher schedule. Upon
returning from break, Greeley opens with Nyack/Tappan
Zee on Wednesday, January 4 at 5:45 pm at the Palisades
Mall and then plays a very strong Pearl River team at
Brewster Ice Arena on Friday, January 6 at 7:10 pm,
followed by the test of the year on Wednesday, January
11 at 7:45 pm versus Rye at Rye Playland. Greeley will
have a very good idea of what will be needed to succeed
in the playoffs after these games.

Greeley 6,
Nyack/Tappan Zee 1
Greeley skated to an impressive 6-1 victory over
Nyack/Tappan Zee.
Senior Aidan Sullivan opened the game with an
impressive goal set up with some quick passing by
Sophomores Jake Frankel and Micheal Yablon. Freshman
Greg Krisberg added two goals, one on a blistering slap
shot from the top of the circle, and Freshman Calder
Fontaine also found the back of the net twice.
Solid defense and aggressive forechecking prevented
Nyack/TZ from putting any real pressure on Goalie Neil
Hershman. Greeley's penalty kill unit saw plenty of
action as the team took too many penalties, which hurt
them against John Jay in their only loss of the season.
Freshmen defensive players Krisberg, Ethan Savitch
and Henry Girardi continued their stellar play as did
Senior Sam Spar and Juniors Blake Davis and Nick Girardi.
Greeley faces a strong Hendrick Hudson team Friday at
7:10 pm at Brewster Ice Arena. Hen Hud is led by one of
the best goalies in the league and we will get a chance
to see how good the offensive really is. Greeley players
are hoping to have a huge fan turnout in this key game.

Greeley
Hockey Season Begins Strongly
Horace Greeley started the season with a impressive
performance at the Brewster Ice Arena Thanksgiving
Tournament finishing with two victories after a opening
round loss.
In the first game of the year, Greeley lost to John
Jay 4-2 after holding a 2-1 lead with 6 minutes to go.
The game was played before a huge crowd of 400 plus John
Jay students and a very vocal although much smaller
group of Greeley fans.
Greeley quickly recovered and defeated Somers/North
Salem 6-2 and finished with a 5-2 victory over
JFK/Putnam.
In the opening game, goaltender Neil Hershman made 37
saves while Senior Sam Spar and Freshman Scott
Jakubowicz scored for Greeley.
Sophomore Michael Yablon opened the second game with
a quick goal on a perfect set-up pass from Senior Justin
Grossman. Two tallies by Sophomore Owen Gatto and by
Freshman Sam Mishkind and a goal by Junior Nick Girardi
rounded out the scoring.
The game versus JFK was a solid victory, with Greeley
outshooting JFK 41 to 24 and a typical standout
defensive effort led by Gatto, Freshmen Greg Krisberg
and Nick Girardi and Sophomores Dean Klein and Jacob
Sandor. Overall, a very positive weekend for this
exciting team.
Greeley next hosts Nyack/Tappan Zee at Brewster Ice
Arena on Sunday Dec 4 at 6:20 pm.
